Ontario’s healthcare system is one of the best in the country. There are about 220 doctors for every 100,000 people, plenty of hospitals specializing in different treatments, and medical research facilities to bolster the ability of hospitals to combat ailments. Scarborough, being a suburb in Ontario, is no different. There are lots of hospitals, clinics, and ERs close by guaranteeing immediate access to treatment should the need arise. Medical workers here love serving their community, so much so that there’s a clinic for folks without medical insurance. The uninsured have access to treatment, including cancer treatment, at a local volunteer clinic operated by doctors and nurses working out of the eastern part of Toronto. Should you find yourself in need of medical assistance, here’s a handy list of hospitals proven to offer the best care in the bustling metropolitan near Scarborough.
Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center
It is not every day that you have a great experience at the emergency room. At Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center though, a visit to the ER is uncharacteristically enjoyable. Even when you’re in a bit of agony and pain, the ambiance and friendliness of the staff reassures you and makes you feel everything is going to turn out OK. Its Bayview Avenue location means you’ll have to drive about 20 minutes from Scarborough, which isn’t too practical for a medical emergency. If you’re not in dire need of medical attention though, the drive is well worth it. The nurses are prompt and courteous. Medical tests are fast and accurate making treatment as convenient as possible.
The Scarborough Hosptial-General Campus
The location of the Scarborough Hospital-General Campus on Lawrence Avenue makes it one of the most accessible medical facilities in the neighborhood. There’s an ER, which although a bit intimidating, is staffed with friendly nurses. Doctors at the facility are pretty much the same. They are cordial, energetic, and knowledgeable. You don’t have to book an appointment to get treatment here, which is always convenient especially if you need immediate medical attention. Typically, tests and treatment take anywhere between several minutes to several hours depending on the complexity of the medical emergency. The hospital is well equipped to deal with most cases. However, patients in need of specialized medical treatment, organ transfer patients, for instance, get referred to select Toronto hospitals. What you might not like about the hospital is the charge at the private parking space. You may pay upwards of $16 should you leave your car for more than two hours. Buying medication at the pharmacy also tends to be a bit expensive.
