With the fast increasing population which has doubled from its original size within the last decade and continues to grow with each dawning day, the people of near Stouffville ON have found themselves needing the services of a well-equipped hospital with qualified staff and provisions to handle all kinds of emergencies. Being a rather small community, Stouffville lacks any notable public health center but is conveniently served by hospitals within the neighboring communities with the main one being Markham Stouffville Hospital, a major public hospital designated to serve Markham, Stouffville and other nearby communities.
Markham Stouffville Hospital
Located at 381 Church Street, Markham Stouffville Hospital is a well-established community hospital and acute care center featuring a 309 hospital bed capacity. This facility which is positioned just south of Whitchurch–Stouffville town is dubbed the base hospital and acts as a resource center for local paramedics.
Markham Stouffville Hospital was established in the early 1990s to purposely serve the south-east part York and reduce the over congestion that had dominated most major hospitals in the area including York Central Hospital and several others found north of Toronto. The facility has undergone major upgrades and extensions since its inception and currently houses a 24-hour emergency center. As such, MSH receives numerous ambulance re-directs for excess patients from east-end Toronto.
The facility offers a wide range of services and departments which include Acute Care, Surgery, Laboratory Service Clinics, Ambulatory Care, Emergency, Cardiorespiratory and Electrodiagnostics, Mental Health care, Maternal health care, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound and Rehabilitation services just to mention a few. As of 2010, Markham Stouffville Hospital upgraded to a teaching hospital in conjunction with the Faculty of medicine in the UofT.
For quick emergencies in and out of MSH through airlifts, a helipad was constructed on the roof of the current emergency section to replace the older one which was situated across the streets. The helipad now offers quick and direct access to the emergency wing and is much safer.
Phoenix Health & Wellness Center
This is a small walk-in clinic located at 6383 Main Street and is designed to handle small health issues and regular check-ups. Though the clinic lacks major infrastructure, it is a real life saver for the smaller health issues.
Wishing Well Pharmacy
Wishing Well Pharmacy is a medical care center that specializes in supplying pharmaceuticals and other health care facilities for locals in Stouffville and other nearby communities. They offer free deliveries for all prescriptions.
