Annual events in Oshawa ON

From its humble beginnings as a simple fir exchange point between the local native tribes and the French Voyagers, Oshawa city has really come a long way to become the city it is today- the eastern Gateway to the Golden Horseshoe and the GTA and the heart of Durham’s economy. With its vast history and great cultural diversity, the city has also developed into a cultural and sports center. It is home to a vast number of annual events which attract thousands of local and international tourists every year. These events are as follows:

Canada Day

Celebrated on the first day of July, Canada Day is one of the most prominent events in the city and is considered Oshawa’s premiere event. The event is mainly held at Lakeview Park and kicks off in the afternoon and raves on until 10 pm. The event attracts over 50,000 local residents, visitors, and curious onlookers every year since its inception. The event also offers plenty of quality entertainment in the form of live performances by local artists, family zone which is full of family-friendly activities, carnival, a tour of a historical village and to mark the climax of the celebration, spectacular fireworks at the beach.

Downtown Oshawa Summer Fest

Held for the first time in 2019, the Summer Fest is an entree into the list of Oshawa’s most loved summer annual events. This event which is held within the City’s downtown area features food trucks from renowned restaurants, plenty of craft beer, vendors, all day live entertainment and performances in the Band Shell, kid’s zone for unlimited fun activities for the little ones, and more!

Remembrance Day Parade and Ceremony

This event is celebrated in honor and remembrance of the brave sons and daughters of Oshawa who have served selflessly in the army. The event is organized by Royal Canadian Legion Branch 637 and 43 and features a memorial parade marching from R.S. McLaughlin Armouries all the way to Memorial Park cenotaph where the main celebrations are hosted. Hundreds of people come to this event every year to show their gratitude and respect for the men and women in uniform.

Oshawa Celebrates New Years’ Eve

Every year on New Year’s Eve, Oshawa residents congregate at the Delpark Homes Centre in celebration for the ending year and the coming year. This event attracts thousands of participants who come to enjoy the many activities, entertainment, and food that the event brings. Some of the family-friendly activities include skating, jumping castles, magic shows, gaming, crafts and a petting zoo among other things.
